Lisa, As you have probably seen on Facebook, James and I took a mission trip to Mexico with our church last week. As part of our trip, the kids shared their story (where their life intersected with God’s plan) with the youth in Mexico. I wanted to share this story with you in person, but I know that I would be unable to get it all out without tears.

James shared his story on Saturday and his story is about Seth. He was saved and baptized at 13. But, he says that until he lost Seth, he didn’t really understand the depth of God’s love or how God can use anything to bring glory to Himself.

James was very angry and confused during this time, but our youth pastor, Brent Porter, counseled with him and told him that God would bring something incredibly beautiful out of all this pain and reminded him how very much God loves all of us. And, in Mexico, James shared this with the youth. He told them about all the work you are doing with Seth’s Giving Tree and how many kids are learning about God’s love through your work. He also told how God has worked in his life and continues to work in his life. He said that Seth taught him to hang on his faith and that God has a plan for each of our lives.

One of the older youth listening to James that day was Raul. The pastors had told us that they were very concerned about Raul, he had been pulling away from church and they didn’t know how to reach him. After that day, Raul spent as much time with us as he could, becoming very close to James and Calean Jones (the other guy on this trip). He also spent a lot of time with the pastor and youth pastor during this week.

On our last night, I talked with Raul’s mother. She shared that Raul had lost a very close friend 4 months ago and that he had really been struggling with his faith since then. He was very angry and confused and was pulling away from everyone. She said that after listening to James’ story, he came home and shared it with her and said that if James could go through a similar experience and still hold on to his faith, that he could too. She and I hugged and cried at how God had intersected our sons’ lives at just the right moment. I wanted to share this with you because your son is a big part of this intersection and renewal of faith. God continues to use Seth’s legacy, even as far a way as a village town in Mexico!

So I just want to thank you for all that you have done. You and your family are a beautiful example to all of us, but most of all to James. Your strength and the work you have done has had such an impact on James’ life and in turn, Raul’s life.

Love and prayers,
Tammy

We shared Seth’s story this summer while on vacation in Puerto Rico. This picture was taken while taking a break while 4-wheeling through the rainforest.
