Bear Hug Brawl XI a Huge Success!
Bear Hug Brawl XI was our biggest and best yet! With over 800 in attendance and our biggest day yet we are so thankful for all of the support from our sponsors, volunteers, fans and board members who made the event such a success! We also want to send a special thank you to Buford High School and the Athletic Department for hosting and coordinating teams!
This year’s Brawl included teams from Andrew Jackson, Buford, Indian Land and Lancaster as well as opponents from Central Pageland, Cheraw and Lewisville. During halftime we held a kicking contest for anyone under 18 and a little competition between Cocky and Seth Bear!
Off the field we had a silent auction with great items donated by local businesses and a raffle for a Traeger Smoker Grill. For concessions we had great local food trucks by The Wandering Bean, Andrew Snow Cones, Hwy 55 and Lil’ Orbits and More!

What is the Bear Hug Brawl?
The Bear Hug Brawl Classic is an Annual Junior Varsity Football Jamboree for Lancaster County Teams to kick off the season. Andrew Jackson High School, Buford High School, Indian Land High School and Lancaster High School JV teams play two 20 minute halves against two of the other teams that day. The games are hosted by Buford High School each year.
The event is a great way to acknowledge the JV Squads, while enjoying a fun filled day with games, prizes and cheerleading competitions. All proceeds from this event finance the kind of community enrichment programs and scholarships that can change the face of Lancaster County for the better.
Where did the name come from…? Seth loved to give hugs, big bear hugs. In our house there is a long hallway, and Seth would come running down the hall to give you one of those hugs. If you didn’t brace yourself for impact you were both going down. When he started playing football we told him to just give the other guy one of your bear hugs and that would certainly stop them in their tracks. The name just fits.
